Alexander Zverev has reached the last 16 of the French Open after coming through a nervy five-set thriller against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor. The German fourth seed won 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-3 in a match that lasted three hours and 48 minutes.

Zverev's Gritty Performance

Zverev was made to work hard for his victory, with Griekspoor playing some excellent tennis. The Dutchman won the second set and took the fourth set to a tie-break, but Zverev's experience and class eventually shone through. He broke Griekspoor's serve in the ninth game of the fifth set to seal the victory.

Zverev will now face Karen Khachanov in the last 16. The Russian is also a former Grand Slam champion, having won the US Open in 2021. Zverev has a 2-1 head-to-head record against Khachanov, but the Russian is in good form this season and will provide a tough test.
